How To Correctly Remove Mascara

Having mainly worn waterproof mascara for the past few years, I know first hand of the struggle it can take to remove the stubborn black formula from your eyelashes before bedtime. Especially if, like me, you like to put coat on top of more coats to make sure you get every single eyelash to look thick and long.

One thing you shouldn't do is rub your eyes viciously with a facial wipe, as the skin around your eyes is very sensitive, and by pulling on it you can loosen the natural elasticity underneath, resulting in wrinkles (I had previously done this for a few years, so I'm expecting to look 60 very soon ;)!!)

So I have composed a few tips to help you remove mascara in a safe, pain-free way.

♥ Decide which product you want to use; I recommend trying a variety to find what works best for you and your skin.

♥ You can use an oil (such as coconut oil) to remove your mascara, by soaking it in a cotton wool pad and applying it to your closed eye.

♥ You can also use a cleanser/makeup remover (using cotton wool pads), by holding the pad onto your closed eye until the makeup has began to dissolve, and then by gently rubbing in a downward motion.

♥ But be very careful with this method, as you don't want to be getting anything in your eyes - it's a very sensitive area, so make sure you're not allergic to any of the products first!

♥ If you still have some mascara left on that refuses to come off, take a facial wipe that is alcohol free (I don't recommend this if your eyelashes are prone to fall out; this is just what I personally do, as I don't like to get the tiny hairy fibres from cotton wool stuck to my eyelashes).

♥ Place the wipe between your fingers and gently grab your eyelashes with it, whilst slowly rubbing. Be very careful, as you don't want to lose your eyelashes, but sometimes this is the only way you can get it off.

♥ You can also use the wipe to swipe your eyelashes as though you're applying mascara, which will help to remove it.

♥ After you're done, clean up any oily residue you may have and apply your favourite eye cream underneath and around your eyes, in case you have slightly tugged on your sensitive skin.

Do you disagree with the use of wipes?

Maybelline: The Rocket Review

Mascara is a main priority when it comes to my everyday makeup routine; it's the number one product that I couldn't live without (as my natural eyelashes are very blonde!) I need to make sure I coat each individual lash (without clumps!) For me, mascara is all about the brush as it determines what kind of lashes you will end up with. When I'm buying a mascara, I like to browse Boots, pulling each wand out of the tubes to see what the formula is like and the type of brush that comes with it. I hate it when I find a gungey one where the mascara is gloopy and clumpy on the brush - that mascara won't be making an entry into my shopping basket anytime soon! I want a fat brush to give me volume, that certainly doesn't smudge and that's completely waterproof - that's when I came across The Rocket Volum' Express by Maybelline.

If you have oily skin like me (especially on the upper lids and under the eyes) then having a smudge-proof mascara is a must! I've used mascaras in the past that leave black lines under my eye, making it look like I have bags! However, this mascara doesn't seem to do that - but I still make sure to apply a primer under my eyes just in case! The volume you get from it is amazing. It glides on easily and after curling my eyelashes, it gives the effect I have falsies on!

But if you want a more natural look, I wouldn't go for this as it's very black and you may not like the amount of volume it gives (especially to your lower eyelashes!) However I'm loving this mascara so far, after only having it for a week! I'm going to keep using it and see how I get on - you never know, it could become my new favourite mascara!

What do you think of this mascara? Have you tried it?

What's In My Makeup Bag (Everyday)

Helllooo!

Okay, so I've decided to do a post about my everyday makeup. It's nothing extravagant; I try and stick to a natural look as I don't want to look like a completely different person when wearing makeup. I'm hoping to do some Christmassy posts within the next couple of weeks. I'm still trying to find decent lighting in my house, as I want my photos to be good quality. But for now, this will have to do until I find a good spot. So, let's get into it!

After moisturising, I apply my L'Oréal Infallible Long-Lasting Perfecting Foundation in the shade 'Porcelain'. I love this foundation; it's creamy and blends in well. I then apply either my ELF Maximum Coverage Concealer in the shade 'Porcelain' or my No7 Quick Cover Blemish Stick in the shade 'Fair', depending on what my skin is like that day. I find that with the blemish stick, it can clog up easily, especially if you have a dry patch of skin. The liquid concealer by ELF glides on easily and is good coverage.

My eyebrows are a tricky one; they are quite thick so I don't tend to fill them in all the time, it just depends on how they look that day. If I do decide to fill them in, I use No7 Beautiful Brows Pencil in shade 'Blonde'. It comes with a brush on the end as well, which is useful!

I then use a powder as I have quite oily skin; I tend to use Pressed Powder in the shade 'Neutral' by 17; it helps 'set' my makeup and makes my face look more matte, which hides the shine. I keep applying this powder throughout the day over my nose and forehead to help keep the shine to a minimum.

Seeing as I'm reallly pale (as you can probably tell by the amount of products in 'Porcelain' haha) I brush bronzing powder across my cheekbones, forehead, nose, chin and neck... everywhere really; just get it on!;) I use Shimmering Glow Powder by Collection 2000 in the shade 'Sunkissed'. I love that it has a slight shimmer to it, so that my face isn't completely matte.

I use Collection 2000 Kohl Eye Liner Pencil in 'Black' along my waterline; I try and accentuate my eyes the most as that is where I feel I need makeup, as my eyelashes are blonde. I feel naked without eyeliner and mascara!!

After curling my lashes with my No7 Lift And Curve Eyelash Curler I apply No7 Stay Perfect Mascara in 'Black'. This is one of the best mascaras I have stumbled across. I was looking for a good mascara for a while as every one that I had tried would end up rubbing off under my eye throughout the day and I was constantly having to blot it off! However, this mascara stays put all day, so I really recommend this!

I finish off with the ELF Therapeutic Lip Balm in 'Strawberry Creme' as it's really moisturising, especially now that my lips are dry because of the cold weather :(. I usually apply lipstick after, but I change it up everyday depending on my mood!
